    What are you talking about? I got that from someone else’s site. Type in Emma’s name on the site search at the top right and you’ll see two more pictures of her.

    I’m not saying this is right, but remember the drinking age in England is 18, not 21, so it’s not the same as a 15-year-old drinking here in the US.

    Drinking in England is completely different than in the US. 16 is the legal age, and it’s much more accepted into the culture. NOT a big deal.

    I know it’s more accepted in Europe. But the younger they start, the harder it is for them to stop. This kind of behaviour could lead to worse things down the rode – sexual assault, unplanned pregnancy, and drug use. This is how Drew Barrymore got started. And being famous and in the spotlight makes it worse with all the pressures that come from Hollywood.

    Not a big deal imo. Here in Denmark most teenagers start at the age of 14 .. but again, we have the worst youngsters when it comes to drinking alcohol. :P

    I understand the French tend to drink earlier and have fewer social problems than the US with booze, but do the Brits count as ‘European’? I know the UK is part of the EU but England invented that little mix of booze + football = hooliganism. Anyway, I agree with both Capri and Koolinus as both viewpoints are valid.

    #17 – In Scandinavia, especially Denmark and Sweden, kids start drinking in the age of 12 and 13. It’s a minority who does it, but again.. there’s still alot drinking in that age.

    But it’s a known fact that the young population in Denmark drinks the most of all in the world.

    I agree with you you Capri. I also agree that it isn’t out of the ordinary for teenages to drink. But I worry about young stars like Emma Watson and the pressures that they face to look cool or conform. Look at what happened to Lindsay Lohan! She was so cute in her 1999 Parent Trap, I adored her.

    Young women stars all seem to become sex symbols. More women are becoming sexually objectifed..etc. “What happened to the dreams of a girl president? She’s dancing in the video next to 50 Cent” (Stupid Girls-Pink). In any case, whether Emma drinks or not, I just hope she makes the right decisions in life, stays true to herself, and doesn’t sell herself out. I love Emma Watson!

    Don’t you think it’d be better if the US made the legal drinking age a little lower? I mean, if you think about it, most kids want to drink because they think it’s cool, and they think it’s cool because kids have to take risks of getting in trouble with the law to get the beer, you know, they have to sneak around to get it most times. I think if they make the age younger, less kids would actually want to drink alcholhol because it’s not as much of a challenge

    Different cultures have different perspectives about drinking, young age or not. Emma is at home with her friends, her parents are probably in the next room. If they aren’t it still no big deal, believe me. Where I come from teenagers start drinking around 13 or 14 years old and it’s no big deal. I’ve gone to parties and there are people drinking, sober or puking on the floor behind their parents back, compared to that, drinking a beer at home with a couple of pals is no big deal.

    i live in sweden, and here it’s not so uncomon for teenagers as youg as 13-14 to drink beer. my firs time i drank a beer i was 12 i think and it was whit my parents.

    And to all of u who says “the younger they start……” thats just b-shit som peopel becomes alocholics and that has nothing to do whit when they starts to drinking, it’s just that some peopels bodys handel alcohol diferent then others. I am now 23 and I can’t say that I’m a alcoholic.

    i think it is emma’s business!!i mean if every time when there are pictures of some teenagers are in the internet with teenagers drink alcohol even if they aren’t allowed to do it the internet would be full of ppictures with drinking teenagers!!in germany where i come from the teenagers start drinking at the age of 12 or 13….nearly at the same age as enox said it is in sweden!!friends of mine are drinking since the age of 12 and even their parents don’t really care.

    I sort of agree with #37, Emma is really pretty. Actually, TOO pretty to play Hermione Jane Granger. I was considered for the part, its just that my British Work Permit expired.     I’m a Brit. It is very normal for kids in the Uk to drink underage. We are a land full of pubs are we not? Its pretty easy to obtain booze, and most people have a very relaxed view. As long as kids are at home, parents know whats going on, no big deal. Better than going out and doing drugs . On the Continent even easier. In france kids will drink watered down wine with meals from very young age. And yes Britain does consider itself European!!?? Or were you not in school on the day they taught that in Geography?? :-)

    It looks like she is in a restuarant in the pics when she’s drinking Cornoa, which means they served it to her and allowed her to drink it. Maybe she lied about her age to get it or maybe an adult was with them and let them order drinks. It’s not that big a deal. i know it doesn’t send a good message to those little Harry Potter fans who love Hermoine, but she not Hermoine, she’s Emma. anyways I think this whole this has been blown out of proportion, and I don’t think casual social drinking is going to lead to drugs and promiscuous sex. Those are my thoughts on the issue

    Just gotta clear up a few chunks of BS off this board here (quite cathartic, I find).
    Emma’s drinking of alcohol is NOT illegal – in the UK a person can DRINK alcohol supervised from aged 14, they just can’t BUY it until aged 18. So for the slow among you, that means Emma IS NOT drinking underage, it’s perfectly legal in the UK – US laws (for e.g) do not apply to us Brits, savvy?

    If you wanna start a moral argument about her being a role model, where does it end? She can’t live by the laws and values of every bloody country on the planet where girls might look up to her, she can only live by British laws and values (and we ain’t yet the 51st state…close, but no cigar yet).
    I ain’t saying she’s perfect, I don’t know too many teens that are. So me personally, I’ma cut the girl some slack and let her make and learn from her own mistakes. That’s life! And thus endeth my sermon (for now).

    Btw, since most of you ain’t bothered to do any research on the subject, drinking alcohol in *small quantities* from time to time is harmless, it’s the excessive drinking and doing it regularly that is unhealthy and there’s no evidence that Emma drinks excessively or regularly (except whatever you people want to believe).

    Is it mostly Americans making a big deal about Emma having a beer? It really isn’t a big thing here in England. In Europe, it’s customary for many people (inc. young people) to drink alcohol with meals, at functions etc and they manage to do it safely without getting drunk. Binge drinking is obviously bad but most people are sensible enough to enjoy the odd beer, wine or whatever without getting drunk.
    But bashing someone for doing something that isn’t even illegal in their own country is just stupid.

    ^^^ Is English your first language because much of your post isn’t making sense.
    From the bits that I can decipher, I think you’ve missed the point. Emma Watson is British and in the United Kingdom the legal age to BUY alcohol is 18, the legal age to drink it under supervision is 14. That is the law in the UK. You don’t have to agree with it but there it is. So she isn’t doing anything illegal IN HER OWN COUNTRY.
    You also have to distinguish bewteen people who have the odd drink here and there, and those who binge-drink. Many people who enjoy alcoholic beverages are able to enjoy it without getting drunk and committing crimes.

    As for 12 year olds getting drunk on the streets, if that can happen in a country where the age limit is 21 then the law in that country is pretty ineffectual, is it not?

    Okay, I’m American and I can totally understand this. Here, the age limit is 21, but if you haven’t drinken alcahol before you out of High School, your behind! So basically, before you 18! You don’t have to get drunk, you just try it to see what it’s like, com on, everyone does it! In England, the age limit is 18, so naturally, the teens are gonna try it earlier, human nature.     LESHHH, the age limit in the UK is NOT 18. The age limit to DRINK alcohol is 14 with supervision but we just can’t PURCHASE it until 18. So Emma is not breaking any BRITISH laws or doing anything underage or illegal by having a beer.
    When are you people gonna get it through your heads, our laws are different to yours so please STOP judging us by your laws. And having a beer isn’t about getting drunk or being an alcoholic, it’s about enjoying a drink. Many people drink without getting drunk, it’s traditional in the UK and across Western Europe for people to enjoy alcohol with meals, at pubs, at parties etc. Emma just ACED her GCSE exams, if she was a habitual drinker do you think she could have managed 2 A’s and 8 A*s on top of all her filming commitments? No, so please get some perspective and leave the girl alone.

    In France, you’re encouraged to drink at an early age. No, drinking does not mean getting pissed off your arse, it means enjoying a bit of wine and whatnot, without becoming intoxicated. It’s a prooven fact, that if you grow up, and your parents let you drink alcohol then and again, you’re much less likely to become alcoholic, as it’s not something new and exciting and daring. It’s just another drink.

    I am very pleased to see that Emma is a normal teenager. Drinking small amounts of alcohol does no harm. All young people should allowed to have some, and thus learn to drink responsibly.

    Under English Law teenagers are allowed to drink in their own homes, and in a pub if over 14 and having a meal with an adult. They cannot buy alcohol until they are 18 years old.

    Prohibition does not work. Drinking in secret is the real danger. Well done Emma for doing it in public!!

    The age in UK is 18 not 16. And while a lot of people do it, Emma should consider the fact that she is a rolemodel and should therefore limit her drinking to her house until she is 18. Kids look up to her! Do you really want your 10year old daughter thinking she does it so can I?

    First of all, there’s nothing wrong with drinking…I was an abusive drinker for a quite long time and yes i realise now that it’s just stupid. binge drinking is bad, not the drinking itself. Now i avoid alcohol because of my stupid mistake. people who can handle booze, who hold self-control, shouldn’t be criticized for having a beer or two. They show responsability, unlike i did. Surely responsible drinking is fine. I drank beer with my father when I was 10, I drank beer at my 13th Birthday party (The Beer was VB which I think is 1.5 standed drinks per can) I’m now almost 18 and in the past couple of years I’ve been to a fair few parts, all of which had underage drinking (All legal because it was privert property) and I was drinking Sminoff (2.2 standed drinks per can) I’m not become an alcoholic, because I don’t get up in the mornings and start drinking (unless I have a magger hangover).

    And as for you Denny, you said that in the U.S people who start drinking around the age of 15 are 4 times more likly to have alcohol problems later in life. Thats because you Yakes are a group of idiots, at your High School Partys u have to drink to be cool, here in Australia and in England it’s “Ohh your not drinking?” “No.” “Cool!”.     christ, if anything, drinking a couple of beers with her friends is a good thing. If she gets used to the effects of alcohol under supervision, then she is less likely to experiment and put herself in danger, and also less likely to binge drink when she gets older. It is true that here in the UK, the legal limit to DRINK alcohol is 14 when supervised. Unsupervised, you have to be 18, and you also have to be 18 to purchase alcohol in a shop or a bar. However, you can purchase a glass of wine to drink with a meal at the age of 14.
    Therefore, she is doing nothing wrong.

    Righto people, in England where I happen to live; the legal age to drink is 18. You’re allowed to drive or have sex when you’re 16 but not drink.     Yup, that’s definately her drinking. Which, you know, I was 16 the first time I actually got drunk too. It’s normal for a teenager to drink…but maybe it’s just all the publicity this is getting added to the increasing number of pictures surfacing of Emma with a beer – but it appears she’s turning into Lindsay Lohan! I know in the UK it is legal to serve to a 16 year old if someone older orders it or there it’s at a restaurant.     first of all, as some one who has seen and lived with alcohol abuse in the family, it doesn’t just take one bear or even 10 for that matter, she is normal teenager growing up, it’s got nothing to do with looking cool for the camera, or peers, or anything like that, she is experimenting, she may like the odd beer so what, it’s not like she’s packing away a couple of litres of Whiskey a day is it? if they’s pictures are real, she is obviously at a restaurant having a drink with family/friends.

    did anyone consider the fact it may be a light beer, or even a non alcohlic drink, she may have also just grabbed someones drink for a fun family picture, never realising that people are going to make an absolute mountain of a molehill.

    When you throw yourself to the public eye (especially in a role so [PG] demanding, like Hermionie)younger girls are naturally going to be drawn to her and follow her as a role model.     My earlier message (rant more like) was not to be confused with disaprovment of her alcohol drinking. Personally, I don’t drink-but if she wants to, it is her business. After all, the law states you can drink 14+ with supervision of a parent, or gaurdian-for all we know there could’ve been a supervisor present.

    But once again- if there was no supervison present, then the leagal age is 18.

    The drinking age of 18 in Britain only applies in certain circumstances. You can drink at 16 with a meal in certain restaurants and other places. You are limited to beer or cider, or in Scotland, wine.As an example, many private schools (such as the one Prince Harry went to) have their own bars and the pupils are given a weekly alcohol allowance.

    Almost ALL parents in the UK allow their children to drink underage to teach them how to drink responsibly.

    And to the person who says that kids don’t like beer, actually babies LOVE beer. In Wales, where I live, it is common to introduce babies to the taste of it by putting a little on their dummies (pacifiers for any Americans out there) and they lap it up.

    The American atitude to alcohol is completely immature.

    I remember once long back when i was still in school, (needs fingers and toes to count here) that one of the girls took my gym skirt, and for months i didn’t have one, so i had to always use my school uniform skirt, that sucked, then one day, one of my firnds said oh i have a spare skirt you can have, so chuffed was i……. when i got it and checked the lable, it was my freaking skirt anyway!!!!!!!!!! (my name was there)

    I’m a bit late i know, I am deffintiley making an enterance at the rolling credits of this conversation but I just want to make my point.
    Something here is pissing me off.
    There is a picture of a young girl sipping a beer, laughing and enjoying herself. And it takes me three minutes to scroll through all your comments as quickly as i can because you are all so enchanted by what she is doing.
    That is sad, tragic and yanks a cold tear from my eye.
    Why? Because it’s about three kilometres of boring internet discussion that no one is even going to blink at…not even your beloved Emma.

    One thing all your comments have is power. Yes, one billion comments will probably do something to draw attention to a topic/ issue.
    So please go and find a picture that actually means somehting to the world.
    Hungry African children or American soldiers rolling their tanks through Iraq- Do something that might save a life or put a smile on someones face.     I live in Scandinavia, Finland, and many teenagers start drinking before they truly are allowed at the age of 18. I’m 15 and I’ve drinked few times. Not anymore, got too much trouble from that stuff :)

    I believe that the US is too sticked with with there drinking laws, i believe that this make underage drinking a bigger problem than it would be if the age was 18. I do not agree with a 15 0r 16 year old drinking a beer. However i believe at the age of 18 you should be able to drink.

    a few things you can do in the US at 18 years of age.
    1. Die for you country
    2. legal have sex
    3. get married
    4. be arrested and tried and an adult
    5. the list goes on and on

    So what the big deal with not being able to drink. I honestly think that if the drink age is lowered the underage drink problems would be cut in half not because the age is lowered but because the number one reason kids drink underage is because the law is too stubborn and that why the underage kids rebel.

    In all the other country’s yes they have there problems with alcohol but not near as close to the USA, if you lower the drinking age to 18 it would solve a lot of problems.

    Whats the big deal with it anyway, the US government acts like it a gun or a bomb its just a drink and 18yr olds are capable of handling an alcoholic beverage.

    3 months and counting for the fore mentioned and final book. 3 months and counting for the 5th installment of the movies July looks good this year.

    First off, that picture was supposedly taken in 2006. She is 17 now. In Europe, it is legal for teens to start drinking at 16. Second, all those pictures show is her holding up a bottle with what we ASSUME is an alcoholic beverage. It could be piss for all we know. You know what they say about what it means to assume someone of soemthing. It makes and ASS of U and ME. None of those pictures actually show her drinking. Although I doubt she hasn’t drank before, I can guarentee that almost everyone who posted a negative comment on this site were not the legal age when they first consumed alcohol.     thursdays is my fave midweek night, we have a quick supper, normally the hubby cooking) and afterwards he will normally busy himself in the study with the PC for an hour , i get on the couch stick the Tv on MNET and don’t get off until after CSI. I used to watch Angels song too (I’d record it and watch during supper) but it’s finished now.

    REgarding the Straightner, it’s a Carmen Ceramic, i’ve had a bout two years only, so it’s still pretty new, I went home to england in oct 2005 for three weeks, but before we left for the airport I straighetned my hair, and put it outside to cool so i can put it in my bag, only once we got to the airport i realised i left it behind, i was gutted, had to by another once i got to England, couldn’t go three weeks without it but it really is a cheap one, but works well enough.

    All my blood amily are back in the UK but i have my lovely fella and all his family here in Joburg.

    Oh i just found out GnR dropped out of Cokefest!!!!!!!!

Also, I don’t believe the pictures of her drinking were meant to be posted on the web. I think they were private pictures. She doesn’t even seem to be drinking from them, just holding the bottle. Most teeangers who are on the “roadway to hell” as you seem to think of it, drink at parties. She seems to be sitting at a restaurant.     Why does it matter if emma drinks i mean i know its not right but she is free to do what she pleases and allso were she lives its ok for 16 year olds to drink.     Most people will find this quite surprising but in the UK you can drink in private property such as your home at 5 years old. If you dont believe me just look up something like UK drinking laws on google.

    Most teens in the UK drink anyway or else their parents must be really sad not to. Just because shes drinking it doesnt mean that shes getting savagely drunk, shes probably just having a good time.

    you people are all stupid. if you pay close attention you can tell that she is not actually drinking the beer. she’s holding and emty bottle or posing with a full bottle at her mouth, but if you pay attention u can tell that she’s only hoding it up enough to look like she’s about to drink it, the liquid is not actually going in her mouth. i’m not saying she didn’t have a taste or even a bottle, but i doubt very seriously that she’s a drunk. like firewhiskey in the books, there is nothing wrong with a little hooch on special occasions.

    Maybe I’m too rotten, but I don’t think drinkin when you’re 15 is neither rare nor horribly wrong. I had my first ciders when I was 15, and my parents bought them. “Almost ALL parents in the UK allow their children to drink underage to teach them how to drink responsibly.” In Finland it’s pretty much the same, well “almost all” part is not necessarily true but… My parents did that and I don’t have any problems with alcohol. Now I’m 18 and I still don’t drink much, like 3 or 4 times in year really…

    Exactly that is the reason why it is good to guide teens to responsible drinking. They are anyways going to drink in some point, so it’s better that parents show them how much is acceptable. Plus it’s much safer to get drunk your first time under the supervision of a parent. Don’t you think?

    i did it at age 12 with some friends.

    Drinking can be stupid if it is done excessively. It can lead to alcoholism and serious health problems and even death. In low to moderate amounts it is either neutral or beneficial to health though. Many studies have found drinking moderate amounts of alcohol reduces the risk of heart disease and some forms of cancer.

    In addition it also has numerous social benefits such as lowering inhibitions and helping people to relax and enjoy themselves more. Many types of alcoholic beverages have a pleasant taste also.

    As for being better to be a prude than a dying alcoholic I would agree, but the vast majority of people who use this substance don’t become addicted to it and use it responsibly. This discredits your Yoda statement entirely. Do you really believe that everyone who has a few beers at a party occasionally is going to destroy themselves and have a negative life?

    If alcohol didn’t exist then people would just use other drugs instead and there would still be the same problems. For all drugs there will be safe users and abusers. The problem is people not alcohol.

    As for the paedophilia comment that is defined as attraction to pre pubescent girls and she is obviously quite developed.

    Sorry to go a bit ot but I had to respond to such an ignorant post. Anyway Emma is hot and a good actress and there is nothing wrong with her drinking.
